MOUNTAIN BIKING: Pocahontas/kennison/cowpasture Loop

← VA BACK CREEK SUNRISE VA Single Tracks →

Description

Leave the Visitors Center parking lot at the back onto Pocahontas Trail. Follow Pocahontas for a couple miles till you come to Kennison Mtn. Trail to the right. (Trail goes up the hill to your right on what looks like an old fire road - Sign was down last year).

After about a 1/2 mile you will pass Blue Knob trail on your right. Stay straight on Kennison Mtn. Trail. You will come out onto Rt.39. Just cross the road into the gravel parking lot on the other side of the road where you will find Kennison Mtn. Trail continues. Ride till you come onto a grassy old fire road and take a right there. This is South Mtn. Trail. Follow it for several miles, mostly downhill till you come out on Cranberry River Trail directly across from Cow Pasture. Take Cow Pasture Trail till you dump out past a hugh old pine tree into a tall grassy meadow. You will come to a sign post (sign was nearly destroyed). Note the old blacktop road under the grass at that point. Take a left here on the grassy old road and follow it for about a mile till you reach Rt.150 / Rt. 39 just across from the Visitors Center. This loop gives you a taste of several trails and only crosses blacktop twice in 19 + miles.

Directions

This loop begins at the Cranberry Glades Vistors Center located about 20 minutes east of Richwood WV and about 10 minutes west of Hillsboro, WV on Rt.39 at intersection with Rt.150 (Highland Scenic Hwy.)
